It’s March and Spring is definitely in the air here in Asheville.  Sommelier Emily Dunaway has selected two wines to celebrate Women’s History Month.  Enjoy these wines on the terrace at Bargello, at the outdoor soft seating area at District 42, or on the Patio at Bargello, and bask in the spring air as you sip this month’s featured wine.

Bargello’s Featured Wine

Martha Stoumen Wines, Post Flirtation White Blend | 2019 | California, US | $60 | Certified Organic Farming

In honor of Women’s History Month, we wanted to highlight the amazing and hardworking women of the wine world – among a long list of our favorites, Martha Stoumen stands out for her philosophy that wine is truly made in the vineyard and patience with the land and growing seasons is paramount to ensuring the longevity of the vines that produce elegantly pure expressions of their grapes. In her Post Flirtation White Blend, a very minimal intervention and natural approach is given to the ensemble of Colombard, Rousanne, Marsanne, and Muscat Blanc; a technique that allows this unusual combination to perform in harmony from the first sip to the last. Enveloping you with notes of Meyer lemon, kiwi, white flowers, and lemongrass, the wine rounds out with an equally supreme savory and bright backbone; an ode to the old vine Colombard that makes up the majority of this blend. Sipping this wine will transport you to an early spring morning in the garden, a welcome experience to accompany the warmer days ahead.

Posana Featured Wine

Cousiño-Macul ‘Dama de Plata’ Cabernet Sauvignon | 2016 | Valle del Maipo, Chile | $50 | Certified Sustainable

March is a celebration of Women’s History and our featured wine of the month does a superb job of highlighting the grace, dedication, and legacy of the only winery in Chile still in the hands of the original 19th-century founding family. ‘Dama de Plata’, or Silver Lady, is a tribute to the founder of Cousiño-Macul: Isidora Goyenechea, the family matriarch, and ancestor of the current head winemaker. Showcasing the beautiful terroir of Chile, this Cabernet Sauvignon exudes a rustic profile led by notes of smoke, spice, dried cherries, and plums all accentuated by a firm tannin structure on the palate. This distinct combination of flavors will speak wonders to the somewhat undiscovered trademark that is Chilean wine through the lens of one of the world’s most popular grapes. Enjoy this wine with the most opulence; and an equally rustic meal of grilled meat and vegetables for an experience worthy of the grand Silver Lady.
